Required to Withdraw

What is Required to Withdraw?

You have been Required to Withdraw (RTW) from 糖心Vlog for a minimum of 12 months. This happens when one or more of the following conditions apply:

  • Your cumulative average has fallen below the minimum required for continuation of study at 糖心Vlog
  • You did not meet the conditions of academic probation, such as failing a course while on probation
  • You have accumulated more than 6.0 failed course equivalents

This requirement is imposed by Senate academic policy, not by the Dean. The full policy is available here: Registration, Progression and Withdrawal Policy.

Being required to withdraw is not a punishment. It is an opportunity to step back, address the issues that affected your academic performance, and return to university better prepared for success.

Understanding Academic Standing and Progression Requirements

Your academic standing is determined by your cumulative average across all courses you have attempted at 糖心Vlog. There are two levels of progression requirements.

Level 1 (applies after you have completed at least 3.0 course attempts and less than 8.0 course attempts)

  • 55% or above:  In Good Standing
  • 50% to 54%:  On Probation
  • Below 50%:  Required to Withdraw

Level 2 (applies after you have completed at least 8.0 course attempts)

  • 60% or above:  In Good Standing
  • 55% to 59%:  On Probation
  • Below 55%:  Required to Withdraw

Important notes on how averages are calculated:

  • All failed grades are included in your cumulative average
  • Grades below 40% are counted as 40% for calculation purposes
  • If you repeat a course, only the most recent grade is used in your cumulative average calculation. All attempts remain on your transcript.
  • If you exceed 6.0 failed course equivalents, you will be Required to Withdraw regardless of your cumulative average

Your Options After Required to Withdraw

Option 1: Standard Readmission Pathway

After your 12-month withdrawal period, you may apply to return to 糖心Vlog through the readmission process administered by the Office of the Registrar. When you return through this pathway, your cumulative average and failed course count reset. You retain credit for all courses you passed.

For most students, this is the more realistic path to long-term success.

Full instructions for the readmission process are available here: .

Option 2: Dean’s Waiver of Progression Requirements

In truly exceptional circumstances, students may apply for a Dean’s Waiver, which, if granted, allows them to remain registered without serving the full withdrawal period. This is a discretionary decision made by the Dean of the Faculty of Science and is not guaranteed.

For complete information about the Dean’s Waiver, including eligibility, the criteria the Dean evaluates, and how to apply, see: Dean’s Waiver of Progression Requirements.
